Classic Tom Petty and as the new Alice in Wonderland movie with Johnny Depp opens today this song 25 yrs ago this week was moving up the top 20 on the chart
Never much of a Tom Petty fan, but I used to watch this video a lot in my younger days, and I really like the song-it’s kinda weird and trippy. The video is pretty damn creative, even by today’s standards.
i remember when this video came out-it was and still is an AMAZING video and song…I get choked up seeing the sitar and hookah…the sitar is good in this song, loved it in ‘paint it black’ too…thanx

Agree, they look identical. And I’m not talking about the costume, but Petty’s facial features, which do bear a very strong resemblance to the original illustrations by John Tenniel for the Alice books. It’s just as if Tenniel had drawn the hatter based off of Tom’s face.

It became popular in Britain and the U.S. when George Harrison decided to give it a go on a couple of his tunes. They’d all visited India to visit some guru dude and George met a guy named Ravi Shankar, who was like the Eric Clapton of sitar playing. Ravi fathered a daughter and they named her Nora…Nora Jones. I just absolutley LOVE music…ALL music. That’s why I HATE rap. THAT Crap is NOT music….and ANYONE who takes the stage so they can MIME their music are RIPPING YOU OFF!!!
