Our family lived his stories. Could have easily been in the pictures. My daddy died with his songs in his heart. To this day mama can’t listen to them.

I heard this for the first time tonight on tv. Tom T hall has the ability to tell a story inside of a song. you can close your eyes and see it. Love these kind of songs.

Trust me the part about women is true, at least from my view”’from an old man

  7. mothermarymary says:

hobie65202: women are like apples on trees..the best ones are at the top of trees…most men are afraid of falling and getting hurt…instead, they sometimes take the apples from the ground that aren’t as good, but easy…the amazing apples at the top have to wait for the right man to come along..the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top…..

  8. hobie65202 says:

I sincerely hope that if you are one of the top of the tree apples some amazing guy climbed up to you. As for me I think I have climbed my last tree because in today’s world there is little or no difference where to apple comes from, in the end they are all pretty much alike as are the tree climbers.

  9. TEARDUCTER says:

@hobie65202 I totally agree with you there

Man, that’s a voice that reminds me of my childhood and youth in Vermont back in the ’60s & ’70s. Sure does make me sadly nostalgic…

Thought I was the only feeling that way…I grew up in the same era but in KY. Those were the days but I suppose every generation says that. :-)

    Thank you sir.
I got to thinkng about some of the old country tunes I heard my folks listening to when I was a kid. This is one I remember well. I’m stationed overseas for my 3rd tour. Brought me a little touch of home. So again thank you.

I once sang old dogs at a county fair back in the early 80′s and won the singing contest. I enjoyed playing that song like no other.

There’ll never be another Tom T. Hall… He had such a smooth voice. He could bring a tear to the devils eye. God bless this man and all his off spring. Loved him.

I rank this song among my top 5 all-time favorite country songs. I went to a Tom T. Hall concert in 1972 and looked forward to hearing it. He ended the show with it and it went straight to my heart. I had goose bumps. I could play the song all day long and never get tired of it! He is a great story teller and an easy voice to listen to. I’m glad that he’s still around.

    Excellent!

The thing about this song is the truth that no one loves you like your dog. Not women, not friends, not anyone. Bounder, my lab, is my best friend.
